Elmer Sherwin, a World War II veteran, hit the jackpot at the age of 76 when he won $4.6 million just hours after The Mirage opened on the Las Vegas strip.
This vet had apparently not heard of quitting while you’re ahead. After using the money to travel the world, Sherwin continued to play slots each week. Sixteen years later, now in his nineties, Sherwin won the same jackpot for a cool $21 million.
A nice twist in the tale: Sherwin gave much of this money to charity, including Hurricane Katrina victims.

It’s not often that you manage to multiply up a wager to the tune of almost a hundred million, but that’s exactly what a Scandinavian player did at the beginning of 2013.
